QUESTION #1: How do you define success for your family? Have you shared this with your kids?

Comments

Clearly there is no right answer to this question. The fun (and insight) begins with simply asking the question and seeing how others respond. Here are some of the answers I got from my own family when I put them on the spot. Success is:

... when our family has fun together and gets along (Katie, age 12)

... when you’re happy, you enjoy what you do, and you have a sense of accomplishment ... when you learn something new every day and you challenge yourself to try things you’ve never done before. (Mike, my husband)

... trying your hardest and doing your best ... it’s about achieving your personal goals (Ali, age 18)

... accomplishing what you want to accomplish. People’s answers might be very different depending on the role they view it through; a student might answer it very differently than a parent or a teacher. (Megan, age 20)

As a parent, I feel successful when my kids are happy and healthy, when they feel a sense of fulfillment, when they act with integrity, and when they are self motivated to do their best. How does your family define success?
