Chemically similar to amphetamines and mescaline, Ecstasy
is described as a hallucinogenic stimulant. Considered the
most popular of the club or "designer" drugs. Many
teens believe it's harmless.

Tablet often stamped with a corporate logo. Also available
as a powder to be snorted or smoked. Average pills cost anywhere
from $7 to $30 each.

The high from Ecstasy is called "rolling."
- At
moderate doses, the high or "trip" can
last for about three hours. Users say it causes feelings
of euphoria, enhanced self-confidence and energy. Effects
include feelings of peacefulness, acceptance and empathy.
- A
heavier dose can cause severe anxiety, depression,
violent and irrational behavior. Prolonged use can cause
permanent brain damage and damage to serotonin producing
neurons.
- An
overdose can cause increased heart rate, blood pressure,
body temperature, loss of consciousness, coma, heart and
kidney failure.

Chance of overdose escalates rapidly when mixed with alcohol.
Many club drugs are manufactured in a crude laboratory inside
a dirty semi-tractor trailer that moves around the European
countryside. Doses vary, labs vary and the drug itself may
vary and be turned into a potentially deadly drug like PMA.
PMA is often sold as Ecstasy but is many times more potent.
