Slang Terms
Nexus, Venus
DXM, Dex, Robo

What they are
The compound Nexus or Venus closely resembles amphetamines and LSD, and some users report it has fewer side effects. DXM can be found in over-the-counter cough syrups and can produce hallucinations.

What they look like
Nexus is found in powder or capsule. DXM is liquid and found in over-the-counter cough medicines.

What they do
Create hallucinations at varying doses. Nexus also enhances sexual receptiveness and performance, making it a sought-after club drug. DXM causes users to become sedated and is often passed off as Ecstasy at raves, although DXM has none of the desirable Ecstasy effects.

Both drugs are very dose-sensitive.

  • A low dose of Nexus will cause a speedy high. A higher dose produces lots of physical energy with intense hallucinations.
  • A low of dose of DXM causes a stoned feeling. A higher dose causes dangerously rapid or irregular respiratory rate and loss of motor skills, often for a prolonged period.
  • An overdose of DXM will cause vomiting, seizures, high blood pressure, liver and brain damage, and coma.

Why be concerned
Nexus can increase sexual drive so much that attempted rape becomes a risk. Talk to your child about staying safe around people using drugs.

DXM is easily available as an over-the-counter medicine. Risks of DXM escalate when combined with alcohol.
