Just Because It’s Not Wrong Doesn’t Make It Right
By Barbara Coloroso

An excellent book on teaching children ethical behavior. Coloroso describes what ethical behavior is and isn’t. She lays out the fundamental lessons we can teach our children so they develop a broad and deep foundation within, which they can use throughout life to decide wisely on their own the most ethical course of action as they face all of life’s challenges, large and small. Coloroso points out that the “black & white” age old advice, such as “Never Tell a Lie”, isn’t helpful in instilling a moral compass in our kids, and she provides excellent examples of how the same action can be ethical or unethical behavior depending on intent, for example. Coloroso also wrote the bestselling book “The Bully, The Bullied and the Bystander”.

"Let's Talk" Mother-Daughter Luncheon, Workshop & Fashion Show HIGHLIGHTS

91 Girls and Mothers Attended this Event on Saturday, March 14, 2009

Speaker Roni Cohen-Sandler, PhD, clinical adolescent psychologist and author of Stressed-Out Girls: Helping Them Thrive in the Age of Pressure; Trust Me, Mom--Everyone Else is Going; and the national best seller I'm Not Mad, I Just Hate You: A New Understanding of Mother-Daughter Conflict, a book about communication between mothers and daughters.

Highlights from Dr. Cohen-Sandler's Presentation:

The good news is that it’s perfectly normal for moms and girls your age to find that getting along with each other isn’t as easy as it used to be. Mothers and daughters not only can survive the teen and tween years, but actually thrive and develop close, trusting relationships for years to come. The mother-daughter relationship is truly special. I’m convinced no relationship is so loving, so frustrating, so comforting, and so infuriating than the mother-daughter bond! If nothing else, it’s intense! And here’s why:

Parents Underestimate Teens Access to Prescription Drugs

December 1, 2008

Parents of teenagers overestimate how easy it is for teens to buy cigarettes, according to a recent national telephone survey. Thirty-nine percent of parents said that cigarettes are the easiest for teens to buy, compared to one-fourth of teens.

In contrast, parents underestimate how easy it is for teens to buy beer and prescription drugs. Fifteen percent of teens say that beer is the easiest for them to buy and 19 percent cite prescription drugs as the easiest. Only 9 percent and 8 percent, respectively, of parents said that these drugs were the easiest for teens to buy.
