Featuring internationally recognized speaker and bestselling author, Barbara Coloroso, in the Keynote Session on her book Just Because It's Not Wrong, Doesn't Make It Right: From Toddlers to Teens, Teaching Kids to Think and Act Ethically.
Barbara will also lead workshops on her book The Bully, The Bullied, and The Bystander.

Start the morning with the keynote presentation (Session I 9-10:30 AM), then continue with two workshops of your choice.
Session II (10:45-11:45 AM):
- 201 The Bully, The Bullied, and The Bystander (All Ages) Barbara Coloroso, author of a bestselling book with this title and expert on conflict resolution, explains bullying and its impact on those involved: the kids, parents, school and community, and shares how to turn negative behavior into positive actions, how to protect your child from succumbing to bullying, and how kids can stand up for their peers and speak out against injustices.
- 202 Positive Character Development: A Report on the Success of School Districts 65, 67 & 115 Programs(Grades K-12) Representatives from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff school districts will highlight programs currently in place that address the social and emotional health of our students, giving a current report on their success. You may submit questions in advance to lead9075@aol.com with "Question for PU: Character Development Workshop" in the subject line.
- 203 Meaningful Connections with Your Teenager (Grades 8-12) Addresses the many challenges of parent-teen communication in the fast-paced, hectic lifestyle of most families. Learn strategies to connect with teens during life's busiest years.
- 204 Setting Limits and Consequences (Preschool-Grade 5)All children need limits, but when they test the limits, what should the consequence be? This workshop addresses setting rules and limits and gives practical strategies for coming up with consequences that fit the circumstances. Learn how to say "no" and how to show your child limits with support and love.
- 205 Adolescent Moods and Emotions: Can We Really Prevent Depression? "Why is my child so moody?" Learn about teenage moods and emotions. Get practical tips to help your adolescent cope and gain insight so you can be better equipped to identify and respond to difficult emotions, relationships and other stress in your child's life. Find out what adolescent depression is, what to do if you think your child is depressed, and what steps you can take as a parent to prevent your child from becoming depressed.
Session III (12:00 noon-1:00 PM):
- 301 The Bully, The Bullied, and The Bystander (All Ages)
- 302 Body Confidence: Inside and Out (Grades 4-9) Young people's self-esteem and body confidence is a product of the culture and society in which we live. Discuss how to develop and maintain a positive family culture around body image, self-esteem, and confidence for our emerging and young teens.
- 303 Holding the Line on Risky Behavior (Grades 8-12) Parents face difficulty setting rules and limits, especially when many of their teenager's peers seem to have no limits at all. Learn how and why you should set family rules about alcohol, drugs, and other risky behavior. You'll gain practical strategies for effective consequences in dealing with your teen.
- 304 Teaching Kids to Care: Nurturing Character and Compassion (Preschool-Grade 4) When kids learn to serve others they become positive, compassionate, and responsible. This workshop explores the human attributes of selfishness, self-absorption, and complacency, and shares how parents can help their child have empathy and integrity and inspire them to make a difference in themselves and the world.
- 305 Mindfulness: Nurturing the Inner Lives of Our Children (All Ages) Improve your child's sense of physical, social, and mental well-being both in school and daily life. Gain an understanding of "mindfulness", key related brain research, samples of contemplative practices, and resources for parents and children.
$25.00 per participant ($30 after March 5), $15.00 per spouse; Fee waived for teachers and staff of schools in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood.
