Our Middle School Series: The Blessing of Raising Teenagers begins in January. This FREE series offers strategies for all parents to help children cope with life’s pressures and develop skills that contribute to a well-rounded and productive adult life.

January 25: "Make Your Mark"--
Dealing with teenagers can often be a mystery to parents. Micah Jacobson, co-founder of the Boomerang Project (www.boomerangproject.com/about) has years of experience working with youth and will help parents understand where their child is in the development process, what to expect next and how to support their child during these transition years. February 6: "Modern Family: Maintaining Values in a World of Change"-- Kids and teens are bombarded with media messages at every turn - tv, music, movies, social networking sites, etc. Sometimes these messages, purposefully or inadvertently, promote drinking, sex, and other risky behavior. How can we foster our family values and help our teens build moral character, respectful relationships, and a strong sense of self? How can we influence them at a time when peer pressure and "fitting in" is so important? Pat Garrity, LCSW, will describe the challenges they face, their perspective on life, and what they are really doing. She will show us ways to help them stay true to themselves with ideas to keep the communication open during this time that they need us most.7-8:30 p.m., Lake Forest Country Day School, 145 S. February 13: "Success & Happiness — A Teen’s Perspective""Why are some teens more "successful" than others? How can parents help their children find the secrets to success? CROYA Manager, Todd Nahigian, and local teens will show parents how to best support their teen to be their best, without going overboard.
